Tampa Woman Posed as Twin Sister During DUI Arrest in St. Petersburg |
Attempt to Deceive Officers Unveiled After Discovery of Real ID |
A 55-year-old Tampa woman, Amelia Mulholland, was arrested early Sunday morning in St. Petersburg for driving under the influence. During the traffic stop, she attempted to mislead officers by presenting her twin sister's driver's license.
The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. at the intersection of 22nd Avenue North and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North. Upon being pulled over, Mulholland handed over her sister's identification, hoping to conceal her own identity. However, officers discovered her actual ID in her purse, revealing the deception.
Further investigation revealed that Mulholland's driver's license had been suspended on January 18, 2024, due to a prior refusal to submit to testing. During the stop, officers noted signs of impairment, including the smell of alcohol, slurred speech, and unsteady balance. Field sobriety tests were conducted, and breathalyzer results showed blood alcohol levels of 0.058 and 0.059.
Mulholland now faces multiple charges: driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, providing a false name or identity to law enforcement, and possession of codeine. This incident underscores the ongoing issue of impaired driving in the Tampa Bay area.
In a related case, a St. Petersburg woman was arrested twice within two weeks for DUI offenses. One arrest followed a crash into a house, and the other occurred after she drove to a liquor store with a flat tire. These incidents highlight the persistent challenges law enforcement faces in combating impaired driving.
Authorities continue to urge residents to prioritize safety and make responsible choices to prevent such dangerous situations on the road. |
