Weekend Spotlight: Opera Tampa's 'The Shining' and St. Pete Opera's 'Giulio Cesare' Take Center Stage

A weekend brimming with operatic masterpieces and theatrical performances across Tampa Bay

Opera enthusiasts are in for a treat this weekend with compelling productions on both sides of the bay.

 

Opera Tampa presents the English-language adaptation of Stephen King's 'The Shining' at the Straz Center's Ferguson Hall.

 

Performances are scheduled for Friday, January 30, at 8:00 PM, and Sunday, February 1, at 2:00 PM.

 

Tickets are available through the Straz Center's box office.

 

In St. Petersburg, the St. Pete Opera Company stages Handel's 'Giulio Cesare in Egitto' at the Palladium Theater.

 

Showtimes include Sunday, February 1, at 2:00 PM.

Beyond opera, the Tampa Bay area offers a variety of theatrical performances.

 

American Stage continues its run of 'The Scarlet Letter,' a compelling adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic novel.

 

Performances are ongoing through February 15.

Additionally, Jobsite Theater presents Shakespeare's 'A Comedy of Errors' at the Straz Center's Jaeb Theater.

 

The production runs through February 8.

For those interested in live music, the Florida Orchestra offers a unique concert experience featuring flamenco dancing by Irene Rodríguez and Marlon Fernández, vocals by mezzo-soprano Sarah Purser, and narration by Michael Francis.

 

The program includes Manuel de Falla's 'El Amor Brujo,' Danny Elfman's Suite for Chamber Orchestra, and Astor Piazzolla's 'Libertango.'

 

Performances are scheduled for Friday at 7:30 PM at Clearwater's Church of the Ascension, Saturday at 7:30 PM at the Peter and Cynthia Zinober Concert Hall at USF Tampa, and Sunday at 2:00 PM at the USF St. Pete Student Center Ballroom.
