Excelsior University Establishes First Physical Campus in St. Petersburg

Pioneering Online Institution Expands with In-Person Learning Opportunities

Excelsior University, renowned for its innovative online education, has chosen St. Petersburg as the site for its inaugural physical campus, marking a significant milestone in its 54-year history.

Located at 9400 4th Street N, the new campus commenced operations on October 20, 2025, offering students a blend of online and immersive in-person learning experiences.

Enrollment is now open for hybrid programs, including the Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, Master of Science in Cybersecurity, and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology, with classes set to begin on January 5, 2026.

Plans are also underway to introduce health care programs, with enrollment expected to start in early 2026.

David Schejbal, President of Excelsior University, highlighted the strategic decision to establish the campus in St. Petersburg, citing the substantial number of current students and alumni residing in Florida.

He noted that nearly 40% of Excelsior's students are active military members or veterans, with approximately 850,000 veterans living between St. Petersburg and Orlando.

"We think that the programs we want to bring down there, including electrical engineering, tech, cybersecurity, and nursing, are just top job degrees that will serve the community well," Schejbal stated.

Founded in 1971, Excelsior University has a longstanding commitment to lifelong learning, focusing on serving students who are historically underrepresented in higher education.

The institution's expansion into St. Petersburg aligns with its mission to provide accessible education tailored to the needs of the community.

In addition to its academic offerings, Excelsior University is actively engaging with the local community to address pressing issues.

St. Petersburg has been experiencing significant growth and development, with initiatives such as the construction of affordable housing projects like the Azalea Gateway and Sky Town Apartments, which aim to provide 223 new affordable and workforce apartments in the area.

Furthermore, the city has approved the purchase of nearly three acres along Salt Creek for new park development and flood mitigation efforts, reflecting a commitment to enhancing community resilience and green spaces.

By establishing a physical presence in St. Petersburg, Excelsior University is poised to contribute to the city's dynamic growth, offering educational programs that align with the evolving needs of the local workforce and community.

For more information on enrollment and program offerings, prospective students are encouraged to visit the campus or contact the university directly.
